Looks like my favorite actress is hell-bent on re-introducing herself to Korean moviegoers after being non-existent in Korean cinema since Blood: The Last Vampire in 2009.
As previously reported, Jeon Jihyun will be playing a loud-mouthed, curse-up-a-storm thief in the Choi Donghun heist film Thieves, where she is reunited with her Il Mare co-star, Lee Jungjae. The film has wrapped up shooting just last week and has released two stills which only made me ask for more:
Looks like someone pissed on everyone’s breakfast.
Must be this man.
Now, not even a month after Thieves has finished filming, Jeon Jihyun has reportedly signed up for a new project entitled Berlin (alternative title: The Berlin File), to be directed by Ryu Seungwan (Arahan, The Unjust).
According to preliminary news articles that came out just today, Jihyun will be playing an elite North Korean agent-cum-interpreter, who is married to a spy played by actor Ha Jungwoo. Additionally, she will be learning how to speak German for this role, and there’s a chance that most of the scenes will actually be filmed in Germany. Also casted are Han Sukkyu and Ryu Seungbum.
Ha Jungwoo (The Client, The Chaser)
Han Sukkyu (Tree With Deep Roots, White Night)
Ryu Seungbum (Beast and Beauty, Arahan)
(Please note that these information can change as better article translations come out.)
Oh my goodness. I think my heart has exploded into tiny, shining pieces of happiness at this news. I was already happy to know that Thieves has wrapped up filming last week, but I really WASN’T expecting Jihyun to sign up for another project this soon. There’s no news yet when filming for Berlin will begin, but since the movie’s slated for release next year as well, I guess it’s safe to say they’re already doing pre-production right now… which means Jihyun might already be starting German language lessons. How awesome.
I must admit I haven’t seen any of Ha Jungwoo’s work, and The Client should be the first (that’s on priority list because hello, Jang Hyuk oppa!) but I’m going to have to look up his other works as well. I hope he and Jihyun have amazing chemistry together because goddamn, the preliminary character descriptions are making me think Korean Mr. and Mrs. Smith or something. Well, okay… maybe not Mr. and Mrs. Smith but… ugh. Elite (secret?) agent and spy married to each other. OMG. That should be hot.
(Are we going to see kiss scenes, Jihyun unni? /shot)
Also, one of the reasons I’m so excited for this project: HAN SUKKYU.
I’ve been watching Tree With Deep Roots and Han Sukkyu as King Sejong is just. so. amazing. He is brilliant. I never thought I’d love another King other than Bae Yongjoon’s Damdeok in The Legend but Han Sukkyu just swept me off my feet. Of course you have to give the writers credit for that, but the man is an amazing actor, no doubt, and to see Jihyun working with him in a project is like an unexpected dream come true.
Ryu Seungbum. OMG I have no words. I have yet to see The Unjust (with Hwang Jungmin, who incidentally co-starred with Jihyun in A Man Who Was Superman), but I believe he has serious acting chops as well. I’m not sure what his and Sukkyu’s roles will be as of yet, but this makes for an awesome ensemble. Jihyun is so lucky, and the stan in me is, too.
2012 is going to be Jeon Jihyun’s year. And oh my goodness, I’m so going to be ready for it. ♥
